My eldest started school last September and recently has really started to notice the differences in how she and her friends look.
So it was with great timing we were invited to review the debut book by Vese Aghoghovbia Aladewolu, Who Do I See Now. This book aims to introduce children to the concept of self-love and acceptance. It explores the various parts of the body, making the idea of self-discovery exciting for children, while encouraging them to love each part and reminds them that they are much more than their physical appearance.
This is a gorgeous looking book and my girls were both excited to see more. In this book you meet Philly and as you travel through the book, Philly points out her favourite features of herself and why she loves them.
This book talks about Philly’s different features and what is so wonderful about them in a simple way. Philly tells us how she loves her curly hair, strong brown legs and big brown eyes. One of the most wonderful parts of this book is the illustrations. The pictures are just beautiful and really make this book extra special.
I thought that this was more suitable for my two year old but my five year old absolutely loved it. As we went through the book we talked about our own favourite features and what we love about them (my eldest loves her light brown skin and her bum that she can wiggle whilst dancing).
If you are looking for a book to help your child focus on themselves and what makes them special, both inside and out, I would definitely recommend this to you.
